Columbia Stages, the award-winning producing arm of Columbia University's Theatre Division, has announced its 2006-2007 season. Columbia Stages performs under the guidance of Anne Bogart, Eduardo Machado, Kristin Linklater and Andrei Serban.

The eclectic season kicks off on October 18th with an original adaptation of The Golem by director Shira Milikowsky. "According to Jewish folklore, the Golem was brought to life to kill his creator's enemies and spare his friends. Soon he could no longer tell the difference. A contemporary adaptation that wonders aloud: where does violence end and guilt begin?," state press notes.

The MFA Acting Class of 2007 will perform in a theatrical piece based on Tales From Ovid, Ted Hughes' renowned translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses. Acclaimed international artist Alessandro Fabrizi will direct. Performances run November 9th to the 18th.

A naughty valentine to life, the NY premiere of Charles Mee Jr.'s Fetes de la Nuit "weaves together dance, music and drama into a racy collage that celebrates the sensual beauty, complexity and passion of love." Helmed by Kim Weild, Fetes de la Nuit will play from February 14th to the 17th.

Next, Venezuelan director Juan Souki will take a theatrical approach to Crime and Punishment. "This unique three-actor exploration of Dostoevsky's famous novel investigates the how, when and why of violent acts in modern society."  It will run March 7th to the 10th.

Georg Büchner's Woyzeck, translated by Nicholas Rudall, will begin performance on March 28th through April 1st. Directed by Marike Splint, this play explores the dreamlike snapshots of a poor man's life.

Wolfe, Based on the poem by Joseph Moncure March, will be directed by Saheem Ali and run April 18th to the 22nd. "This racy musical is based on a 1928 poem about one night of escalating decadence, through which LaChiusa stages a brilliant, savage, polystylistic unmasking of the lies by which we live."
