The Gazette.com reports that AVENUE Q has not received the warmest welcome in Colorado Springs due to the "puppet cleavage" pictured on the show's promotional poster art.

The Gazette reports: "Lamar Advertising recently rejected a bus shelter advertisement that would have revealed the character Lucy the Slut's furry pink cleavage."

Said Kristy Maple, who serves as marketing director for New Space Entertainment, which produces the Broadway in Colorado Springs productions, "My lovely rep (at Lamar) didn't have a problem with it...We were in the process of putting it on the presses when one of the top execs saw it and said, ‘I don't think it's appropriate for the Colorado Springs market.' "

Commented Jeff Moore from Lamar "If I have to explain it to my 4 year old or my grandmother, we don't put it up."

AVENUE Q is the smash-hit Broadway musical about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets through a hilariously irreverent, Tony®-winning book and score.

AVENUE Q tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who moves to NYC with big dreams and a tiny bank account. The only apartment he can afford is way out on Avenue Q, where everyone's looking for the same things he is: a decent job, a stable relationship, and a "purpose." Eventually, Princeton learns to embrace the ups and downs of city life and realizes that "the real world" isn't so bad, after all!

AVENUE Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx; and is directed by Jason Moore; puppet design by Rick Lyon, orchestrations by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Lew Mead; associate director is Evan Ensign and music supervisor is Andrew Graham.

AVENUE Q will play the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs on March 16 and March 17, Tuesday & Wednesday at 7:30pm. For tickets and information, visit www.pikespeakcenter.com.
