On Sunday, July 30th, some of Broadway's best will once again perform an evening of some of the hidden gems from the darkest corners of the musical theatre vault. "Flopz n' Cutz 3" will be performed at 9:30PM at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St.).
The previous sold-out incarnations of the "Flopz n' Cutz" concerts took place earlier this year and in the summer of 2005 at Joe's Pub and featured music from such notorious shows as Grind, Rags, Bring Back Birdie, Bright Lights Big City, Lunch, Annie Warbucks, Faust, Do I Hear A Waltz?, Urban Cowboy, King of Hearts, Annie Warbucks, Carrie, and original performances from Frogs and Dance of the Vampires. The Cutz portion of the evening has featured numbers cut from such hits as Fiddler on the Roof, Chicago, Spelling Bee, Sweet Charity, ...Forum, and many more.
Currently scheduled to appear in the upcoming concert are Todd Buonopane (...Spelling Bee), Jenn Collela (Urban Cowboy, upcoming High Fidelity), Barrett Foa (Avenue Q, ...Spelling Bee), Alison Fraser (The Secret Garden, Romance/Romance), Mandy Gonzalez (Dance of the Vampires, Lennon), Chris Jackson (The Lion King, upcoming In The Heights), Meredith Patterson (Irving Berlin's White Christmas, 42nd Street), Clark Thorell (Hairspray, Titanic), Shonn Wiley (42nd Street, Dracula), and many more.
"The 'Flopz' and now 'Cutz' series aim to acquaint theatre enthusiasts with shows and songs that, while not quite successful in their original incarnations, still have merits that can be showcased in a concert setting. The 'Cutz' concert will feature some of the songs that didn't make it into some of today's favorite Broadway musicals." The 'Flopz n' Cutz' series has featured performers including two-time Tony-nominee Laura Benanti, Tony-nominee John Cariani, Lisa Howard, Max von Essen, Lauren Molina, Donna Lynne Champlin, Natascia Diaz, Tony-nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger, Tony Award-winner Cady Huffman and more.
'Flopz n' Cutz 3' will be presented by Jamie McGonnigal (World AIDS Day concerts) and will feature musical direction by Michael Lavine.
