On Monday evening Feb 22, at 7PM, Cliff Korman coordinates and leads a program on improvisation in Brazilian Popular Music, specifically in the musical universe of Hermeto Pascoal. Special guest will be Hermeto's bass player, Itiberê Zwarg.
They will present the Brazilian resource that Cliff is developing for jazzstudiesonline.org <http://jazzstudiesonline.org> , discuss improvisation, Música Universal, and Itiberê's ensembles, and play. Tad Shull, the editor of the website, will speak about this wonderful project of Columbia University's Center for Jazz Studies. Billy Drewes will join them on woodwinds, and Rogerio Boccato on drums.
The event is held in partnership with Columbia University's Center for Jazz Studies, Americas Society presents jazzstudiesonline.org , a website dedicated to considering jazz from a broad and multidisciplinary perspective.

They will explore the music of Hermeto Pascoal, Paulo Moura, and João Bosco, and feature an exciting roster of special guests. Residing between New York and Rio de Janeiro, Cliff Korman has assembled a collection of big band arrangements whose scope fully reflects the vitality and complexity of the contemporary music world in Brasil. Since their emergence in the 1930s, Brazilian big band arrangers have combined the excitement of Brazilian rhythms with this powerful formation to develop distinct and original styles seldom heard in North America.
