Lincoln
Center Theater's Platform Series, a forum for public discussion between
Lincoln Center Theater artists and interested theatergoers, begins its
2005-2006 season on Wednesday, September 21, at 6:00 pm with a pre-performance
talk with Victoria Clark and Kelli O'Hara.
The two play mother and daughter Margaret and Clara Johnson in the show, which featuresa book by Craig
Lucas, music and lyrics by Adam Guettel and direction by Bartlett Sher.
Platform Series events take place
between the matinee and evening shows on Wednesdays, from 6:00 pm to 6:45
pm, in the lobby of the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65th Street).
Clark won the triple
crown – the 2005 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Awards - as Best Actress
in a Musical for her performance as the American mother who tries to thwart
her daughter's romance with an Italian boy in The Light in the Piazza.
Her many Broadway appearances include Titanic, How to Succeed
in Business Without Really Trying, Urinetown, Cabaret, Guys and Dolls,
and Sunday in the Park
O'Hara received Tony
and Outer Critics Circle nominations for her performance as Clara, the
daughter who blossoms when she finds her true love while on vacation in
Italy. She has appeared on Broadway in The Sweet Smell of Success,
Dracula the Musical, Follies, and Jekyll & Hyde.
The Light in the Piazza
won six 2005 Tony Awards--Best Score, Best Actress, Best Orchestrations
and three design awards (the show features costumes by Catherine Zuber,
lighting by Christopher Akerlind and sets by Michael Yeargan). Based on
the novella by Elizabeth Spencer, Piazza opened at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre (150 W.
65th St.) on April 18th. The show currently stars Clark, O'Hara, Aaron Lazar, Chris Sarandon, Patti Cohenour and Sarah Uriarte-Berry.
