The premiere of Ben Cikanek's first full-length play Conference Room A will play in a limited engagement at The Red Room from October
13th through through November
5th, on Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
"Inspired in part by the Brat Pack classic The Breakfast Club," states production notes, "Conference Room A is a comic drama that looks for the soul in a life dedicated to The Man. Jill, the office new girl, attempts to seduce her straight-laced boss, Brent, by "accidentally" shutting down his computer at a critical moment and forcing him to spend the night with her in the office recovering lost data. Her plans for seduction are quickly undermined by another co-worker, Robbie, her endlessly sarcastic once-and-again lover, who still has strong feelings for Jill and vociferous opinions on just about everything else, including whether or not God ever intended for human beings to spend their lives in places like Conference Room A."
Cikanek, who also produces, has been producing and directing theater in New York's East Village since 2003. Past credits include Spring and Jake and The Blue Martini. He is an award-winning filmmaker and is also an alumnus of Chicago's famed Improv Olympic.
Klar, who is the writer-director of such short films as Dark Elevator and Inspiration, first discovered the roots of his storytelling skills as an art director in advertising. From the tiny accounts at small agencies to international brands at New York's Saatchi & Saatchi, he has produced print, web, guerilla and television advertising for brands like E! Entertainment Television, Cheerios, Cookie Crisp, Kodak and Crunch gyms (for which a 30-second TV spot directed by Mike was recently featured in Creativity magazine). Klar has also worked on various independent short and feature films as a crewmember and Director of Photography, as well as co-producing an Off-Off-Broadway production of The Blue Martini with Ben Cikanek.
