A cast of 25 sexy dancers will deliver the perfect cure for this week's polar vortex as Broadway Bares: Winter Burlesque kicks off the 24th season of Broadway Bares with two sizzling performances this Sunday, January 26, 2014, at XL Nightclub (512 West 42nd Street, NYC). The evening is produced by and benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Tony nominee and Broadway Bares favorite Christopher Sieber (Pippin, Shrek the Musical, Spamalot) will open the show, leading the company in a rousing number celebrating his reasons to love each month of the year. The evening's finale will feature recording artist and Broadway veteran Matt Zarley (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Who's Tommy) singing his single "Everybody 4 Somebody." Afterward, Sieber will direct Bares' famous "rotation," where the cast freestyle dances for individual donations.
This year's Winter Burlesque show, dubbed Calendar Girl, will be based on last summer's Fire Island Pines sensation and inspired by 1999's Broadway Bares IX: Calendar Girl. More than two dozen of New York theatre's sexiest dancers will take the stage in a stimulating strip-a-month journey through the calendar. There will be two performances of Calendar Girl: 8 pm and 10 pm.
The full cast includes many dancers returning from Fire Island's Calendar Girl: Cesar Abreu, Matt Anctil, Kristine Bendul, Patrick Boyd, Barrett Davis, Elizabeth Dugad, Carlos Gonzalez, Benjamin Horen, Anne Otto, Waldemar Quinones-Villanueva, Daniel Robinson, Michael Scirrotto, Justin Smith, Billy Steeves, Jena VanElslander, J. Morgan White, Ryan Worsing, and Sidney Erik Wright. Rounding out the cast are Calendar Girl newcomers Heather Lea Bair, Julius C. Carter, Anthony Rooar Decarlis, Rashaan James II, and Matthew Rossoff.
A limited number of VIP tables and reserved seating still are available. General admission tickets are $25. For more information, go to broadwaybares.com or broadwaycares.org/winterburlesque.
Winter Burlesque starts a steamy Bares season that also will include Broadway Bares: Solo Strips in May and Broadway Bares 24 on June 22, which is moving this year to Hammerstein Ballroom located in the Manhattan Center, NYC. Tickets for Broadway Bares 24 are on sale now at broadwaycares.org. This year's Broadway Bares 24 theme and details about Solo Strips will be announced later this spring.
Broadway Bares: Winter Burlesque will be directed by Michael Lee Scott. Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots) is executive producer and creator of Broadway Bares.
