If cast, these would be the actors' first on-screen singing roles. Pine and Gyllenhaal are likely being considered for the roles of Cinderella and Rapunzel's princes, a pair of competitive, arrogant men in search of true love.
Gyllenhaal recently appeared off-Broadway in If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet. His upcoming film projects include Nailed, Mississippi Grind, Prisoners and An Enemy. Other movie credits include End of Watch, Source Code, Love and Other Drugs, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Brothers, Rendition, Zodiac, Jarhead, Proof, Brokeback Mountain, The Day After Tomorrow, Donnie Darko, October Sky and more.
Pine is well-known for his portrayal of Captain Kirk in Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness. Upcoming films include Jack Ryan and Mantivities. Pine has also appeared on screen in People Like Us, This Means War, Unstoppable, Smokin' Aces and more.
As BWW previously reported, INTO THE WOODS is heading to London to begin shooting this September. Meryl Streep is set to play 'The Witch' in the film by Warner Bros/Disney, with Johnny Depp as 'The Wolf' and James Corden as 'The Baker'.
James Lapine, the original book writer of INTO THE WOODS, is reworking the script for the screenplay, while Sondheim has also written new material for the film, including "Rainbows", a duet between The Baker and his Wife, as well as a new song for Streep as 'The Witch'.
The newest casting notice for the film reads: "Starring in "Into The Woods" is three-time Academy Award nominee and Disney favorite Johnny Depp, who is playing a hungry and sexy vicissitude of the fairy tale Wolf. Depp has made a number of blockbuster hit films for Disney including the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, "Alice in Wonderland," and "The Lone Ranger". Also starring as the vain and charismatic Witch is three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep. Most recently Streep starred in "August: Osage County" alongside such A-list talent as Benedict Cumberbatch, Ewan McGregor, Julia Roberts, and Abigail Breslin. Rounding out the first three roles Disney has cast is Tony Award winner James Corden playing the role of The Baker. Corden, who is hugely popular in England, recently played the role of "Britain's Got Talent" sensation Paul Potts in the film "One Chance"."
