Laurence Olivier Award-winning stage star and early Oscar favorite for awards front-runner 12 YEARS A SLAVE, Chiwetel Ejiofor discusses his early reticence to become a film actor and his undying passion for the theatre as part of a new interview.
The versatile and accomplished performer states of his unusual moniker and his lack of desire to star in films early on, "I'd never really considered film. If I'd thought about film more growing up, I probably would have changed my name. I had no concept of my name in lights."
Ejiofor says that theatre is his true passion, relating, "It's part of who I am. I wouldn't be the same actor if I couldn't do theater."
Furthermore, Ejiofor says, "I love the theater community and theater life, and would love to figure out the distinctive differences between Broadway and the West End."
Additionally, Ejiofor confirmed that he plans to proceed with a film adaptation of the stage hit A SEASON IN THE CONGO with director Joe Wright in the near future, as well.
