Broadway stars Chita Rivera, Rosie Perez and Martha Plimpton are set for the Transport Group Gala, "Gimme a Break" to be held December 7th at Asia Society and Museum. The event will honor Broadway veterans Joe Mantello and Terrence McNally. The night will be hosted by Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen of [title of show]. The night will also feature performances by Marian Seldes, Stephanie J. Block and Brooks Ashmanskas.
Plimpton has appeared on Broadway in Top Girls, The Coast of Utopia, Cymbeline, and Pal Joey. In addition to starring in Shakespeare in the Park's A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Public Theater, she has appeared in dozens of productions with some of the country's most famed regional theaters including The New York Theatre Workshop, The Steppenwolf Theatre and the Seattle Repertory Theatre. Once a Calvin Klein model, the actress has appeared on screen in The Goonies, Running on Empty, Woody Allen's Another Woman, and the television series Family Ties.
Perez made her Broadway debut in Terrence McNally's Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. She has appeared in multiple encores of The 24 Hour Plays. She starred as Pooty/Sue in the Broadway play Reckless and most recently was featured in the role of Googie Gomez in the play The Ritz.
Universally regarded as an American national treasure, Chita Rivera is Broadway's most accomplished and versatile dancer/actress/singer. A recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center honor, presented by the President of the United States, Chita has won two Tony Awards as Best Leading Actress in a Musical and has received six additional Tony Award nominations. Broadway history was made when Chita's electric performance as Anita in the 1957 premier of Broadway's West Side Story brought her international stardom. Chita is also well known for her starring roles in Bye Bye Birdie, Born Yesterday, The Rose Tattoo, Call Me Madam, Threepenny Opera, Sweet Charity, Kiss Me Kate, and Zorba. She most recently appeared on Broadway in Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life, the story of her own life in the theater. Her most recent Broadway appearance previous to this was in the Tony Award winning revival of Nine, starring Antonio Banderas.
