Chita Rivera Performs at March 13 Academy of the Arts Awards Gala

Roy Furman, President of The Academy of the Arts, Guild Hall of East Hampton'’s prestigious society, which for the last 20 years has recognized lifetime achievement in the literary, visual, performing arts and business will present a special for leadership and philanthropic endeavors to Steven A. Schwarzman at the Academy'’s 21st annual award gala, Monday March 13, 2006 at the Rainbow Room (30 Rockefeller Place) in New York City.

The highlight of the evening will be a special performance by two-time Tony Award winner and Kennedy Center Honoree Chita Rivera (The Dancer's Life, Kiss of the Spider Woman, West Side Story).

A prominent businessman and philanthropist,  Schwarzman is Chairman, CEO and Co/founder of The Blackstone Group, Chairman of the Board of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and is a board member of numerous arts and business organizations.  The gala will also pay homage to Lifetime Achievement Award Winners of the last 20 years, an illustrious group of luminaries that includes Wilhem de Kooning, Tom Wolfe, Jerome Robbins, Robert A. M. Stern, Lauren Bacall, Robert Wilson, Marshall Rose and Mort Zuckerman

The evening benefits arts, entertainment and educational programming at Guild Hall, the premiere cultural institution on the East End of Long Island, now celebrating its 75th year.

The evening will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.  The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 8:15 PM.
