In celebration of Black History Month, The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is hosting its "African American Arts Festival" with programming over the course of two weekends. Aimed at young children and parents, activities, CMOM's performances, activities and music pay homage to the Black experience in America.

Highlights of the Festival include an exploration of the origins of jazz with a performances by the Jazz at Lincoln Center's WeBopTM band, a quilt project inspired Faith Ringgold's story quilts and "Harriet Tubman, Herself," a one-act piece in which actor Christine Dixon dramatizes the dangerous and fascinating story of this American hero through spirituals and storytelling.

"By exposing young children of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to the richness of African American history and culture, we hope they will have a broader understanding and appreciation of the struggles, joys and triumphs of their fellow Americans, said Leslie Bushara, Deputy Director of Education and Guest Services at CMOM.
