Chicago Wicked to Welcome William Youmans in Dec.

William Youmans will take on the role of Shiz University professor Dr. Dillamond in Chicago's Wicked, following the pre-Broadway world premiere of The Pirate Queen, in which he plays Richard Bingham.  He will be featured for a limited run from December 12 through January 14.

Youmans appeared as Doctor Dillamond in the original Broadway company of Wicked.  A veteran of the stage and screen, he has also appeared in the original Broadway companies of Baz Luhrman's La Boheme, Titanic, Big River, and Little Foxes (with Elizabeth Taylor).  Other theatre credits include: Weird Romance, Miracle Brothers at the Vineyard Playhouse, Orphan of Zhao at Lincoln Center, and Henry V at the Delacorte Theater.  His film credits include:  Mrs. Sofitel, Comprising Positions, Nadine, Fresh Horses, and A League of Their Own. 

The Chicago company of Wicked started performances on Friday, June 24, 2005 and continues its record breaking open-run at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre (24 W. Randolph St.).

Wicked had its official opening at the Gershwin Theatre on October 30, 2003, breaking house records with box office receipts of over $1.4 million per week.  Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, the show has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman.  Directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento, thee musical is currently being presented on Broadway; on a national tour; and in the separate, open-ended engagement in Chicago.  The London production had its official opening at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on September 27.
