Chicago will add two resident productions of Broadway musical--one a little past and one present--to its 2007 theatre season. The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, IL will present resident stagings of
The Producers and
Little Women; both will be limited-run.
Directed and choreographed by
Marc Robin, the
Mel Brooks smash
The Producers--originally staged by
Susan Stroman--will begin previews on September 19th, 2007 and run through December 9th. In the show, which features a score by Brooks and book by Brooks and
Thomas Meehan, a down-on-his luck producer and a timid accountant attempt to make money with what they are sure will be Broadway's biggest flop--"Springtime for Hitler." The show opened at the St. James Theatre on April 19th, 2001 and has run for over 2,200 performances.
Little Women, with music by
Jason Howland, a book by
Allan Knee, and lyrics by
Mindi Dickstein, is a musical adaptation of the classic Louisa May Alcott novel that opened at the Virginia Theatre on January 23rd, 2005 for a run of 137 performances. Directed by Dominic Missimi, it will begin on December 12th, 2007 and play through January of 2008.
The season will also include
Grease (directed by Robin, running from February 14th, 2007 through April 22nd) and
Shenandoah (directed and choreographed by David H. Bell, from April 25th through July 1st). The new musical
Married Alive!--concerning a set of newlyweds and a couple whose wedding bands aren't so new--will play from July 5th through September 16th, 2007. It features music by Leah Okimoto and book and lyrics by Sean Grennan.
