Cheryl King is a force of nature.
After 15 years working in the New York theatre scene, on the road in National Tours and stand up comedy, and in Emmy Award winning daytime television she decided to add producing to her acting, directing and coaching assignments.
Upon announcing her intentions she was immediately inundated with scripts and groundbreaking projects.
What she couldn't find was a home for her mushrooming band of future award winners.
Exhausted with the endless search, she built her own theatre, a space where the needs of both the artist and the audience were met with impeccable attention to detail and experience – a pristinely clean space, properly lit, acoustically sound, with navigable dressing rooms and an intimately designed relationship between the stage and the house in an extremely accessible part of town.
In short, she built a theatre with soul that forged a commercial and artistic success within a very short space of time.
Miss King opened STAGE LEFT STUDIO on October 1, 2005.
She serves as the theatre's Artistic and Managing Director.
Six years and 400 productions later she has created a home for the solo artist, the Off-Off-Broadway playwright and four Festivals (Left Out, Women At Work, Beyond the Pale, Mama Drama).
Many of the productions have been nominated for awards and have moved on to larger scaled theatres across the country. Miss King has directed over 30 of these productions and starred in almost as many others.
This season, in addition to producing 38 shows, she is directing five productions and starring in the highly acclaimed "GRAPEFRUIT".
STAGE LEFT STUDIO is located on the Sixth floor at 214 West 30th Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues – the crossroads of creativity.
It is considered the jewel in the Off-Off-Broadway crown.
