Cherry Lane Music Publishing Company, Inc. recently announced a multi-year, worldwide administration agreement with Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin for their original songs from The Wedding Singer - The Musical. The company also represents Broadway writers Maury Yeston, Leslie Bricusse and Jason Howland, and oversees the music of Elvis Presley, John Denver, Quincy Jones, and more.
In the press release,
Dan Rosenbaum, Cherry Lane's Advertising Music & Catalog Development VP,
Dan Rosenbaum, noted, "We're delighted to be working with this terrific collection of songs. 'It's Your Wedding Day' is one of the liveliest opening numbers of recent Broadway seasons, and one of the rare songs from a musical to cross over to a broader audience through TV. We anticipate even more interest in these songs as the national tour and international productions unfold."
Beguelin commented, "Matthew and I are honored to be joining the Cherry Lane family. As we have had numerous requests for music from the show, our association with Cherry Lane will ensure that our songs will be readily available to those who share our love for
'The Wedding Singer.'"
Press releases describe
The Wedding Singer as "an ingenious adaptation of the cult favorite film of the same name, based on the 1980's story of a down-on-his-luck wedding singer who unexpectedly finds love. Sklar and Beguelin's songs of
The Wedding Singer parody the upbeat pop music of the 1980's and evoke memories of the decade of decadence while delivering a strong dose of humor. The show received five Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. A national tour is set to commence this fall, and international productions are in the works."
