In honor of the current Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Chef Yigit Pura announced today a limited edition Hedwig and the Angry Inch-inspired macaron. Featuring a flavor profile provided by recent Tony Award winner and current star of the Broadway production, Neil Patrick Harris, the macaron -- called "Hedwig Schmidt" after the title character -- features a bourbon-orange marmalade ganache with a brandied cherry center, covered in edible red glitter. The limited-edition "Hedwig Schmidt" macaron will be available beginning Monday, August 11 at Tout Sweet Pâtisserie (Macy's Union Square, 170 O'Farrell St., 3rd Floor) as well as online at www.toutsweetsf.com.
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch has played an integral role in my life since its original Off-Broadway production at the Jane Street Theatre," said Pura. "I have been inspired by the ingenuity of John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's book and music and the positive message of love and discovering who you really are."
"Hedwig Schmidt" will be available in a 14-piece box in-store and online for $35. Individual macarons will be available in-store for $2.
To ensure freshness, all web orders will be shipped Monday through Wednesday (Monday through Thursday in California). Orders of macarons received Thursday through Sunday (Friday through Sunday in California) will ship the following Monday.

About Hedwig and the Angry Inch - HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, the musical with book by John Cameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, directed by Michael Mayer won four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, Best Actor (Neil Patrick Harris), Best Featured Actress (Lena Hall), and Best Lighting (Kevin Adams). In addition, the production has been honored with Best Musical Revival by the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
The show opened in April to rave reviews and plays to sold out audiences at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44th Street). The New York Times called the show "An unqualified pleasure," Variety called it "a spectacular revival," and Wall Street Journal said "I don't remember the last time I heard a Broadway audience scream so loud. This HEDWIG feels like a celebration: a large-scale, thrilling production, with sets that amplify the drama of the songs while retaining the intimacy within the lyrics."
Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells will join the production as Hedwig starting Wednesday, August 20.
