Beginning on August 30th, Sweet Charity will return to its normal performance schedule--Tuesdays and Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Starring Tony-nominee Christina Applegate in the title role and Tony Award-winner Denis O'Hare as Oscar, the show is a revival of the classic musical about a tough but vulnerable taxi dancer who keeps hope alive no matter how many times her heart is trampled. After three (rather tumultuous) out-of-town engagements in Minneapolis, Chicago and Boston, the show began preview performances at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W. 45th St.) on April 11th and opened on May 4th.

The musical also stars Janine LaManna as Nickie, Kyra Da Costa as Helene, with Rob Bartlett as Herman and Paul Schoeffler as Vittorio.

With a (revised) book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, Sweet Charity is based on Federico Fellini's screenplay (with Tullio Pinelli and Ennio Flaiano) for his film Nights of Cabiria. The production is directed by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago), choreographed by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento (The Who's Tommy, Wicked) and is produced by Barry and Fran Weissler and Clear Channel Entertainment in association with Edwin W. Schloss.  Scott Pask (sets), William Ivey Long (costumes), Brian MacDevitt (lighting), and Peter Hylenski (sound) are on the design team; Don York is the musical director and Don Sebesky is responsible for orchestrations.  The new cast album, released on DRG Records, is now available in stores.

Sweet Charity originally opened at the Palace Theatre on January 29th, 1966 in a production that was staged by the legendary Bob Fosse and starred the equally renowned Gwen Verdon in the title role; it ran for 608 performances.

Tickets (which range from $56.25 to $101.25) can be purchased at Telecharge.com or by calling 212-239-6200. For more information, visit www.sweetcharitythemusical.com.
