WWD is reporting that Chanel's affiliate, Paraffection, has acquired French super-glove-maker Causse, which joins the other EIGHT specialist ateliers they have bought up in the past decade including embroiderer Lesage and button maker Desrues.

“This kind of know-how is disappearing,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel fashion, characterizing Causse as one of only a handful of elite glove specialists left in Europe.

The Chanel acquisitions are so relatively small – they never disclose the sums, but it can’t be much.  Paraffection acquired Causse from husband-and-wife partners Manuel Rubio and Nadine Carel, who took over the business in 2003. Rubio is to remain managing director of the firm, and Carel continues as artistic director.  Causse currently employees 40 people.

Causse makes gloves under its own name and also produces for brands including Louis Vuitton, Loewe and Chanel.  And Chanel says it encourages the ateliers to work for its rivals, and, after all, the more business the little businesses get, the better for the Chanel group’s bottom line.
