Chain NYC Film Festival to Premiere Film About Longtime Critic Susan Granger

IT'S A HOLLYWOOD LIFE!, which captures the story of longtime film and theater critic Susan Granger's 80+ years in and around the entertainment industry, will have its NYC premiere Saturday July 27, 5pm at the Chain NYC Film Festival.

The TV premiere will take place on Connecticut's PBS station, CPTV, on October 21.

As a child actress, Granger got her start at the age of 4 in SALUTE TO THE MARINES with Oscar winner Wallace Beery, and then was in movies featuring other legendary stars from Hollywood's Golden Age such as Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, and Abbott & Costello.

Her father, director and producer Sylvan Simon, was credited by Lucille Ball as having inspired the crazy comedy that led to I LOVE LUCY.

The interviewees in the half-hour documentary short include Keir Dullea, former Tony nominee Mia Dillon, and 1944 Juvenile Oscar winner Margaret O'Brien.

The film's two directors are Laurie Valentina Gomez Acosta, Yale '22, and Maya Weldon-Lagrimas, Yale '24; both were awarded the Howard R. Lamar Prize in Film (which is the school's top film prize).

The producer is Fred Cantor. His previous documentary short, THE HIGH SCHOOL THAT ROCKED!, was the only documentary short selected to screen at the 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Film Series.
