Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris, currently starring in Sweeney Todd, will headline Weimar New York, a concert that will be presented on March 27th at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St.).
The evening, beginning at 11:30 PM, will feature "performances of Weimar-era music by Kurt Weill and others (that) will be mixed with twenty-first century downtown cabaret acts
and embody and update the Weimar spirit," according to press notes. Joining Cerveris will be Julie Atlas Muz, Theo Bleckmann, DJ Vaginal Davis, Adam Dugas, Julian Fleischer, Rachelle Garniez, Daniel Isengart, Taylor Mac and Helen Stratford; Sherry Vine and Desiree Busch will serve as co-hosts.
Cerveris, who won accolades for his performance as Sweeney Todd in the current high-concept revival, is a 2004 Tony Award-winner for his performance as
John Wilkes Booth in the Roundabout Theatre production of Assassins. Other Broadway
credits include Titanic and The Who's
Tommy, while he has appeared off-Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Wintertime. Cerveris was featured in the Ravinia productions of Anyone Can Whistle, Sunday in the Park with George and Passion
(repeating the role of Giorgio at Lincoln Center, which he also played
in the acclaimed Kennedy Center production in 2002). Cerveris is also
known as a rocker; he heads a band titled after his surname. "Dog-Eared"is his band's debut album.
