CelebrateHer: Visual And Aural Portraits Of 12 Remarkable Women

On June 22 and 23 at Morrice Hall on the McGill Campus, visual artist and feminist Aquil Virani will collaborate with independent theatre company, Imago Theatre to bring you CelebrateHer; an art installation honouring 12 remarkable women who were publicly nominated for their everyday acts of inspiration. The piece explores diverse experiences of womanhood, the ethics of respectful representation, ecosytems of activism and the complexities of allyship. The installation combines large-scale painted portraits of 12 women from artist Aquil Virani with an audio play crafted by playwright/creator Erin Lindsay in collaboration with Micheline Chevrier.

About Aquil:

Awarded as the "Artist For Peace 2018" by the Quebec-based artist collective "Les artistes pour la paix," Aquil Virani is a visual artist who integrates public participation into his socially-conscious art projects. He exhibited his award-winning "Canada's Self Portrait" project at the Canadian Museum of Immigration in Halifax. He won an award from the Michaelle Jean Foundation to produce his "Postering Peace" art documentary.
