Members of the Pit Stop Players, a fourteen-member instrumental ensemble composed of veteran Broadway pit musicians, will join with their significant others to make beautiful music together for Valentine's Day, with "Date Night." featuring group members and their spouses performing together.
Program includes music by Pat Metheny, Astor Piazzolla, Reinhold Glière, Miklós Rózsa, group member Gregory Landes, and music director Joshua Rosenblum, among others.
Now in their ninth season, the Pit Stop Players is a genre-defying ensemble for contemporary music, comprised of top New York freelancers who normally spend their evenings playing in Broadway pit orchestras. The group's repertoire includes commissioned new work, as well as great pieces from the recent past, orchestrated specifically for the group. The Pit Stop Players have performed works by Bernstein, Bartok, Ginastera, Stravinsky, David Shire, Stephen Schwartz, William Bolcom, Peter Schickele, Danny Elfman, Lennon/McCartney and Freddy Mercury, as well as world premieres by Steven Burke, David Chesky, Jamie Lawrence, Josh Schmidt, Michael Starobin, Fay Wang, David Wolfson, and Joshua Rosenblum. The New York Times praised the Pit Stop Players for their "flair, sprightliness, and precision" and their "playfully cohesive" programs.
