In honor of hardworking parents across the five boroughs, the United Palace will ring in Mother's Day with a screening of the sci-fi classic 'Aliens' (1986) on Sunday, May 6th. Directed by James Cameron, the film stars Sigourney Weaver as the iconic lead heroine Ellen Ripley and serves as a winking celebration of motherly love - whether it be from humans, man-eating Alien Queens, computer software, or galaxies far beyond. Named one of Entertainment Weekly's Best Action Movies of All Time - in addition to landing a TIME cover and 7 Academy Award nominations - 'Alien' continues to be regarded as a breakthrough masterpiece in its genre, maintaining a 98% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes over 3 decades since its release.
The film, which took home two Oscars for Sound Effects Editing and Visual Effects, will be screened in the Palace's newly-installed surround sound system and 50 foot screen, putting its outstanding use of tech on full display. The screening will also feature a pre-show tribute to the film's own real-life star mom - Sigourney Weaver - by the venue's own Palace Players, an ensemble of local actors.
As of this month, the United Palace is now also accepting MoviePass for its monthly screenings. Full ticketing details below.
