The Down Town Glee Club's mission has broadened since its founding in 1927. It has become a diverse group of men from all walks of life who simply love to sing and enjoy the camaraderie. Our dues are relatively low or waived, rehearsals are once a week, and our only singing requirements are that a candidate possess an ability to carry a tune and has a willingness to become more proficient.

We perform songs which comprise the range of music genres, including the American Songbook, Broadway, film, folk, gospel, popular music of the past fifty years, and works from new composers and lyricists. Our goal is to attract an audience which is as widely dissimilar as the membership, and to provide a low-cost entertainment option for music lovers throughout New York City.

Over nine decades of performing, we've assembled a rich history of outreach, both in public forums, such as patriotic events, and countless appearances at nursing homes, senior centers, hospitals, hospices, and veterans facilities. Currently, we are pursuing alliances with other like-minded organizations whose missions may be similar - the common denominator being the preservation and promotion of American popular music. In that regard, we offer free tickets to their communities.
