The worlds of art and entertainment join forces to celebrate the third Making Books Sing Gala - Salute to Song. The Gala evening will present:
2013 Harmony Award to Sybille and Tony Pearson - Sybille is a Tony award-nominated playwright and Tony is a respected leadership coach.
2013 Family of Artists to Charles Greenberg - Charles is an amazing composer and long -time collaborator of Barbara Zinn Krieger.
The evening will consist of a private VIP reception, Charitybuzz.com auction, sit-down dinner and live performances by Cortez, Steggert and other surprise guests. The Gala is co-sponsored by Sterling National Bank. The Gala will celebrate classic New York City style with a black and white motif with punches of color through floral arrangements, lighting and staging.
Making Books Sing - The, NYC based, critically acclaimed theatre company and arts-in-education non-profit organization, serves thousands of school and family audiences with theatrical productions and arts-in-education programming.
Cat Greenleaf - Gala Host - Cat Greenleaf is the host of NBC's Emmy Award- winning series, "Talk Stoop with Cat Greenleaf". Celebs, performers, and newsmakers come to Cat's stoop in Brooklyn and sit for a 15-20 minute interview, covering career highlights, life story, issues of the day and current projects.
Kathleen & Henry Chalfant - Gala Honorary Co-Chairs - Kathleen is a Tony award nominated actress of stage and screen with ground-breaking performances in Angels in America and Wit. Henry is a renowned filmmaker whose documentary, Style Wars, helped to introduce hip hop culture to the world.
Special performances: GIANT co-stars Natalie Cortez and Bobby Steggert will perform selections from the new Off-Broadway production.
The gala will support Making Books Sing's mission of promoting children's literacy and Social development through arts-in-education programs and professional theatre productions. MBS has reached more than 100,000 students and families through in-school/after-school residencies, professional productions and family workshops at schools, theaters, community-based organizations and cultural venues.
