Casting Announced for Off-Broadway's Intellectuals

Casting has been announced for the WorkShop Theater Company's production of Intellectuals by Scott C. Sickles, directed by David Gautschy. The show begin performances Friday, September 8th and opens on Monday, September 11th at 8:00 pm. Performances continue Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm through September 30th.
In Intellectuals, "mayhem ensues when a psychologist takes a 'sabbatical' from her marriage to pursue her untapped feminine potential as a lesbian. Her spurned philosopher husband is left to concoct his own version of a romance with a much older woman in an effort to stoke his wife's jealousy. Their best friend, a romantically challenged gay film critic with a propensity for destroying his own relationships, is then entangled in their web of deceit. When cooler heads prevail, husband and wife confront the bigger question: Is their marriage worth saving?," according to press notes.
The company will include Bill Blechingberg, Ellen Dolan (Detective Margot Hughes on "As the World Turns"), Patricia O'Connell (Broadway: Waiting in the Wings, Summer Brave, The O'Neill Plays and Mrs. Mona Bigelow on "One Life to Live"), Kari Swenson Reily (LOL 2005 FringeNYC and MITF), Bill Tatum (WorkShop's Last Stand), Kim Weston-Moran (WorkShop's The Bow-Wow Club) and Jess Cassidy White (The Wastes of Time--MITF).
Playwright Sickles, Producing Director of the WorkShop Theater has been presented on the WorkShop stage previously with the contemporary comedy-of-manners From the Top and the time-travel romance The Philosopher's Joke. Other plays include Murmurs, Shepherd's Bush, and Lightning from Heaven.
Director Gautschy recently staged Messiah, Manly Men Doing Manly Things and The Man in 119 for the WorkShop Theater Company. Other directing credits include The Wastes of Time, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Electra.
Entering its 13th season, the WorkShop Theater Company specializes in the development of new plays, and also nurtures the talents of actors, playwrights and directors with the presentation of readings and workshops as well as fully staged plays, musicals and multi-media productions. The company's two-theater complex on 36th Street includes the 65-seat Main Stage Theater and the 35-seat Jewel Box Theater. Last year's award-winning film, Finding Neverland, began as the stage play The Man Who Was Peter Pan by Allan Knee, presented by the WorkShop Theater Company in 1998. The WorkShop has also presented premiere productions of the plays Angel Wings by Murray Schisgal (who is best known for Luv and the screenplay of Tootsie) and 1348 by Tom Dulack (author of the Off-Broadway hit Breaking Legs).Videos
