The Directors Company production of Irena's Vow, the new Broadway-bound play by Dan Gordon, starring four-time Tony nominee and three-time Drama Desk Award-winner Tovah Feldshuh, and directed by Michael Parva, has been invited to perform a special concert version of the acclaimed new play at the United Nations this afternoon, to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a rare and prestigious invitation for a group of performers.
Irena's Vow is the uplifting true story about one of the most courageous and unsung heroines of World War II. During the German occupation of Poland, Irena Gut Opdyke (Feldshuh), a Polish Catholic, was forced to work as head housekeeper for a very prominent Nazi major. Over a two year period of service, Irena would risk her own life in order to save the lives of twelve Jewish refugees whom she secretly took under her care.
Irena's Vow is the extraordinary story of one woman's choice and the twelve lives that would ultimately be saved - or lost - by her decision.
The complete cast also includes Sandi Carroll, Tracee Chimo, Steven Hauck, Scott Klavan, Peter Reznikoff, Thomas Ryan, Gene Silvers, John Stanisci and Maja Wampuszyc.
The special one-time-only performance of Irena's Vow at the United Nations is sponsored by the Permanent Mission of the United States to the United Nations, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations, and the Polish Cultural Institute.
Irena's Vow begins performances at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street) on Tuesday, March 10th, with opening night set for Sunday evening, March 29th. Stan Raiff, Daryl Roth, Debra Black, James L. Nederlander/Terry Allen Kramer and Peter Fine are the producers.
