Broadway's award-winning Matilda the Musical, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and the Dodgers, has invited children from New York City public schools to participate in "Write Here, Write Now," a program sponsored by the RSCand the NYC Department of Education that provides over 300 students from arts-underserved communities with the opportunity to explore writing in a unique way, as their storytelling is brought to life on a Broadway stage. On December 12, the program will culminate with the cast performing a private presentation of the original scenes written by the students on stage at Broadway's Shubert Theatre.

After attending a performance of Matilda the Musical on Broadway, the students were invited to write a scene or song inspired by the show, with classroom guidance by teachers trained by the RSC in the "Write Here, Write Now" program. From the many submissions, one scene from each participating school was selected by Ryan Emmons, Associate Director ofMatilda The Musical, and Fiona Ingram of the RSC Education Department, to be rehearsed by the Broadway cast of Matilda the Musical. Directed by Ryan Emmons, these ten scenes will be performed for the students on December 12 at the Shubert Theatre. To mirror the theatrical creative process, some scenes will be presented as table reads, some as staged readings, and some with full production values, including lights, costumes and music.

Winner of a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards including Best Musical, Matilda the Musical is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox). Matilda the Musical is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Matilda The Musical is directed by Tony Award® winner Matthew Warchus, who helms this production with a book by Tony Award®-winning playwright Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Australian comedian, musician and composer Tim Minchin. The production has sets and costumes by Tony Award® winner Rob Howell, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Tony Award® winner Hugh Vanstone, and sound by Simon Baker.
