Prompted by the wildly enthusiastic response of audiences and theatre critics, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is producing their cast recording of Illyria, a new musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night by Peter Mills and Cara Reichel. The "contemporary operetta" made its regional theatre premiere this past December at The Shakespeare Theatre's Main Stage in Madison. A special grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation will help support the recording of this promising new addition to the American musical canon.

The CD is scheduled to be released on April 1, April Fool's Day, a fitting date given that the opening lyrics of the musical are, "Illyria… land of fools, where clarity's a rarity and madness rules."

The Illyria CD will retail for $19.99. For additional information, call 973-408-5600.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is one of the leading Shakespeare theatres in the nation. Serving 100,000 adults and children annually, it is the state's only professional theatre company dedicated to Shakespeare's canon and other world classics. Through its distinguished productions and education programs, the company strives to illuminate the universal and lasting relevance of the classics for contemporary audiences.

The 2005 Main Stage season opens in Madison with William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor (May 31–June 26), followed by Christopher Hampton's adaptation of Choderlos De Laclos' novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses (July 5–24), Bertolt Brecht's Galileo (August 2–21), Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest (September 6–October 2), Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (October 11–November 13) and Shakespeare's As You Like It (November 29–December 31). On the Outdoor Stage, located in Morris Township, the company presents Marivaux's The Triumph of Love (July 19–August 7).

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's programs are made possible, in part, by funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and contributions from numerous corporations, foundations and individuals. American Airlines is the official airline of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Crystal Rock Water is the company's official water provider.
