According to the Wall Street Journal, current Love Letters star Carol Burnett is writing a book about her career-making '60s and '70s CBS variety show. She revealed the project during an event with Rosie O'Donnell at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on November 2.
Burnett told O'Donnell that for THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, "We did a Broadway show every week," and that her favorite sketches were the "'mini musicals', which saluted a composer or lyricist by weaving their songs into a story written for the variety show."
The book will include liner notes about different sketches she performed with cast members Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence and Tim Conway, along with stories about the show's various guest stars.
THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW ran from 1967 to 1978 and won Burnett and the team numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Following the variety show, Burnett starred in the films PETE 'N' TILLIE, THE FOUR SEASONS, ANNIE, NOISES OFF and more.
Burnett made her Broadway debut in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS in 1959, followed by FADE OUT - FADE IN, MOON OVER BUFFALO, PUTTING IT TOGETHER and HOLLYWOOD ARMS. She received a special Tony Award in 1969.
There are only seven more performances (engagement ends November 8) left to see Burnett and Brian Dennehy in A.R. Gurney's enduring romance about first loves and second chances, LOVE LETTERS, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street).
