Carnegie Hall & From The Top Present a Young Artists Showcase for Families

On Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall and From the Top will partner to present a Young Artists Showcase program for families, hosted by Christopher O'Riley and featuring the winner and runners-up from Big Break, a new online contest for young American musicians. Launched this past fall, Big Break offered young musicians the chance to compete for a spot on a special episode of NPR's From the Top national radio broadcast, as well as the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. The Grand Prize winner, 17-year-old percussionist Marcelina Suchocka of Chicago, IL, performs at this concert, along with the contest's three runners-up: 16-year-old pianist Gideon Broshy (New York, NY); 16-year-old cellist Brannon Cho (Short Hills, NJ); and 14-year-old harpist Helen Gerhold (Lansdale, PA). Ms. Suchocka's winning performance, an excerpt from Anders Koppel's Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra, as well as the submissions from all runners-up, can be viewed at youtube.com/BigBreak.

This performance is part of Carnegie Hall's Family Concert series, presented by the Weill Music Institute (WMI), which offers parents innovative ways to introduce their children to the world of music. This diverse and educational weekend concert series is designed to give families the opportunity to experience the joy of attending a live musical performance in Carnegie Hall at a low price. All Family Concert performances-recommended for children between the ages of 5 and 12 and their families-feature a pre-concert activity open to ticketholders.

On Saturday, May 14 at 1:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, vocalist Emeline Michel concludes this season's Family Concert series with a fun, energetic program mixing Haitian, Creole, and French folk songs with vibrant jazz.
