Tony Award-winner Len Cariou will headline a new Broadway-bound musical that will premiere at the Coconut Grove Playhouse (3500 Main Highway) in Miami, Florida. Opening October 21st, Passin' It On will run through November 6th.

Directed by Jeffrey B. Moss, with music and lyrics by Terry Cashman and a book by Larry Atlas, Passin' It On "deals with Sig McCartney (Cariou), the owner of a baseball-themed sports bar in a small South Florida town, who earns a modest living that is rich in family, friendship and love. He's surrounded by a world in which little businesses get eaten by big ones; house calls have turned into HMO's and family picinics have been replaced by $3,000.00 theme park weekends...," according to press notes.

"A hardworking man, Sig's life is simple but happy. But when the local baseball spring training camp moves north and the tourists follow, Sig learns happiness can come at a steep price. With few patrons, bills mounting and a daughter who has sacrificed her goals for her father's passion, Sig must choose between his childhood dream or his family's survival."

In addition to Cariou, the show will feature Sy Adamowsky, Frank Anderson, Robert Bartley, Jordan Bennett, Michael Flanigan, Julia Haubner, Joe Ricci and Chris Ian Sanchez. The set design is by Antje Ellermann, lighting is by Kirk Bookman, and choreography is by Lisa Shriver. Passin' It On will be produced by
Warren Baker and Sally Jacobs in association with The Coconut Grove Playhouse's artistic director Arnold Mittelman.

Cariou received the 1979 Best Actor in a Musical Tony Award for his performance in the title role of Sweeney Todd; he also originated the role of Frederik Egerman in Sondheim's A Little Night Music and was nominated for a Tony. An actor equally at home in straight plays and musicals, his Broadway credits include King Henry V, Applause (for which he received his first Tony nod), Cold Storage, Dance a Little Closer, Teddy & Alice, The Dinner Party and Proof.
His film credits include A Little Night Music, Executive Decision, Thirteen Days, About Schmidt and Secret Window.

Performances of Passin' It On will run Tuesday through Sunday evenings Oct. 18th through November 6th at 8PM. Matinees are Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM. The official opening in Miami will be on Friday, October 21st at 7:30 PM. After its close in Miami on November 6, the show will continue its run for one more week the Broward Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale; the dates are from November 8th through November 13th.
