Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy to Star in SKYLIGHT West End Revival from June 6

The Daily Mail reports that Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy have signed on to star as former lovers in Stephen Daldry's upcoming West End revival of David Hare's SKYLIGHT. The production will begin performances June 6 at Wyndham's Theatre. This will be Mulligan's West End debut.

Hare saw Mulligan onstage in The Seagull -- "She's incredible on stage," he told the Mail -- and thought she would do well as Kyra Hollis.

Kyra is a teacher in London who is reunited with her ex, a restaurateur called Tom Sergeant (Nighy). The pair soon discovers they now disagree on everything from politics to sex.

Nighy has played Tom in a previous revival and told the Mail that his decision to appear in the play again "is an odd thing". But he described SKYLIGHT as "funny, accessible and romantic".

Also in the cast will be Matthew Beard, who appeared opposite Mulligan in the movie An Education, as Tom's son.

SKYLIGHT originally premiered in 1995 at the Royal National Theatre, Cottesloe, directed by Richard Eyre and starring Michael Gambon as Tom and Lia Williams and Kyra. The show transferred to Wyndham's Theatre in 1996. It won the Olivier Award for Best New Play that year. The show transferred to Broadway with the same cast and drew Tony nominations for Best Play, Leading Actor and Actress and Direction.

Mulligan starred in The Seagull first in London in 2007 and then on Broadway. Her performance was nominated for a Drama Desk Award in 2008. She also appeared in Atlantic Theater's Through a Glass Darkly in 2011. Among her many film credits are Public Enemies, An Education, Never Let Me Go, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Drive, Shame, The Great Gatsby and Inside Llewyn Davis. She will next be seen on the big screen in Far from the Madding Crowd.

Nighy made his stage debut at the National Theatre in Illuminatus! in 1977, followed by two David Hare premieres at the National. In 1993, he starred in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, also at the National, as well as 2000's Blue/Orange, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award. Nighy appeared on Broadway in 2006's The Vertical Hour, for which he won the 2007 Theatre World Award.

On screen, Nighy's recent credits include Love Actually, Underworld, Shaun of the Dead, The Hitchhiker's Guide tot he Galaxy, Pirates of the Caribbean, Notes on a Scandal, Hot Fuzz, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Rango, Jack the Giant Slayer, About Time, and upcoming - I, Frankenstein, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 and Pride.
