Cannavale, Parsons Among Nominees for 2012 Emmy Awards

Nominations for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today by Kerry Washington and Jimmy Fallon, from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre at Television Academy headquarters in the NoHo Arts District of Los Angeles.

Broadway stars and theater-related shows were strongly represented in this year's list of nominees including Bobby Cannavale who received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his guest starring role on ABC's Modern Family and Christine Baranski who was nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Diane Lockhart in The Good Wife.

Harvey's Jim Parsons received a Best Actor in a Comedy nomination for his role of Sheldon Cooper in CBS's The Big Bang Theory. Broadway vet Jesse Tyler Ferguson received a nod for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for ABC's Modern Family while Edie Falco was recognized for her lead role in Nurse Jackie. Tony winner Denis O’Hare, who stars in the Shakespeare in the Park production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, received an Emmy nod as did Company's Christina Hendricks.

Glenn Close received a nomination for her starring role on Damages and Mare Winningham, of off-Broadway’s Tribes, was nominated for her supporting role in A&E's Hatfields & McCoys. Woody Harrelson, co-author of the upcoming off-Broadway play Bullet for Adolf, received a nomination for Best Lead Actor for HBO's Game Change.

Zooey Deschanel, who will soon make her Broadway debut in the role of Loretta Lynn in the stage adaptation of 'Coal Miner's Daughter' received a nomination as Best Actress in a Comedy for the FOX series 'New Girl'

The 65th Annual Tony Awards received multiple nominations including Best Director, Glenn Weiss, Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Art Direction.

NBC's Smash, the new drama series about the making of a fictional Broadway musical received mulitple nominations including a nod for Uma Thurman as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series and a nomination for Joshua Bergasse for Outstanding Choreography. The songwriting team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman received a nomination for the song 'Let Me Be Your Star."

The PBS broadcast of the Tony-award winning Broadway show Memphis picked up a nomination for Outstanding Technical Direction, Camera Work, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or Special.

PBS's Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Legacy also received a nomination for Outstanding Music Direction. 

The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live coast to coast on Sunday, September 23 (8:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET) on ABC and will originate from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The telecast will be produced by Don Mischer Productions and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This will be Kimmel’s first time hosting the Primetime Emmy telecast.
