Luis Salgado does it again: Candela "Fuerza Y Pasion" opened to a full house of 1,700 people who all rose to their feet to join the cast for the Peruvian National anthem as the peak catharsis moment of the show.
"For me this is the greatest moment as a director, to do nothing on stage after giving the audience so much information and let a simple gesture, a hug, a real organic connection move the audience. When the guitar solo by Ernesto Hermoza builds the audience gets on their feet to become part of the show." says Luis Salgado, director of this new Peruvian Musical. "It lands every performance! When we did it last year it was a very special moment but tonight having 1,700 people stand under the Peruvian moonlight and witness the power of unity and intergration, it was pure MAGIC to me".
The opening night of this new version of Candela "Fuerza y Pasion" presented an evolution from the original show Salgado wrote last year, which had a successful run in September at the ZUM theater in Lima. On Friday night the production played under the stars in an arena venue specifically created for this performance at the Regatas Club and will tour to the Centro Cultural Rimac Theater space in Asia Peru for performances beginning on March 10.
"At the Rimac Theater I will have the challenge of transforming the show to be set within a proscenium format. The show has always been performed in the round, I wrote it to be an active experience with the audience allowing them to really participate. I look forward to finding this interactive experience for the audience in that space, who will have an exclusive take of our show"
The show includes 26 dancers, 12 musicians, original music by Ernesto Hermosa, over 80 costumes designed by Chiara Macchiavello and New York lighting designer Herrick Goldman. Goldman flew to Peru as part of Salgado Productions team to re-create and adapt the original lighting design by Joel Silver who at the moment is busy in another project.
"Not only is the production of great quality but Salgado Productions has also provided us with Broadway qualified designers who make our Production Company stronger and bolder as we are proud to host and provide a great cultural exchange." says Veronica Navarro, Associate Producer of Pura Vibra Productions.
Another great sucess of the show this time was adding a team of 3 young talented leaders who came from Vania Masias D1 Dance who also participated in R.Evolucion Latina's 2011 Choreographers Festival in New York City.
"Now these young leaders continue to be examples and work with Pura Vibra on other projects. We are proud of having given them a chance to Go Beyond." says Lucia Navarro General Producer of the show who joined with Salgado Production to make this production what it is today.
Lead singer and National Peruvian celebrity Lourdes Carguas commends Salgado by saying "Luis, you were, you are and you will always be the right director to guide us all and open us up to what we posses and secretly have deep inside our hearts. You bring out the best of us all and I am grateful to be part of such a magical show."
Owner of Cosas magazine Elizabeth Dulanto said "Candela 'Fuerza Y Pasion' is a marvelous show. One of the best productions I have ever seen in Peru."
Luis, who currently has a show he choreographed running off-Broadway, DC-7, The Roberto Clemente Story, about the Puerto Rican Baseball player, adds "I am humbled and proud, dancing and choreographing have been my passions that have trained me for these new adventure as a director. And with my new producing company I am looking forward to bigger dreams like bringing Candela to NYC some time soon"
