Performing on Broadway is a dream for countless young artists. Camp Broadway's Dance Track, designed for students ages 13-18, provides aspiring dancers who have prior training in ballet, jazz and tap with the opportunity to hone their talents with instruction from Broadway choreographers and experienced professionals. Dance Track will be held during New York City Schools' Winter Break, February 20-24, 2012 at Pearl Studios in New York City.
Dance Track is a 5-day dance intensive that features choreography from current Broadway shows taught by Camp Broadway Choreographer Sue Delano (My Fair Lady, Cabaret, Liza in Concert), Mark Ledbetter (Mary Poppins, Thoroughly Modern Millie, White Christmas and currently performing in Anything Goes), Rommy Sandhu (Oklahoma!, A Christmas Carol and currently performing in Mary Poppins), and other master teachers. Students will learn interpretations of tap, jazz and ballet techniques pioneered by legendary Broadway choreographers such as Bob Fosse (Tony for Best Direction of a Musical in 1973 with Pippin), Jack Cole (considered the Father of Theatrical Jazz Dance) and Lee Theodore (creator of The American Dance Machine). The session will culminate with an in-studio performance showcase for a Broadway casting director. The program also includes a Broadway outing to see Mary Poppins complete with a pre-show lunch and a post-show Q&A with the cast.
