Makor (35 W. 67th St.) has announced its December line-up, featuring play readings, concerts and more.
A reading of Camino Real, directed by Stephan Morrow, will be presented on Sunday, Decemebr 3rd at 7 PM. "This rarely performed Tennessee Williams play - part mythic fable, part noir adventure - chronicles the dreamlike battles and romances of famous literary characters such as Don Quixote and Casanova and examines the tension between freedom and tyranny. Leading the cast are Betsy von Furstenberg and Larry Block." Additional casting will be announced. The reading is $15.
On Monday, December 4th at 7 PM, "the cast of The Milliner joins playwright Suzanne Glass for a discussion of her acclaimed play. "Drawn in part from Glass's own family experience, The Milliner is the story of the exiled German Jew Wolfgang and his return to his Motherland after the end of WWII." Tickets are $7.
There will be a reading and discussion of Lebensraum on Sunday, December 10th at 1 PM. "Celebrated playwright Israel Horovitz returns to New York with the revival of his play Lebensraum, a comic-drama which explores the roots of WWII and imagines the return of six million Jews to Germany. Horowitz and director Jonathan Rest will discuss the new production of this acclaimed play, followed by a reading of excerpts from the script and a Q & A session." Tickets are $7.
The variety show "Briefs" will be performed on Sunday, December 10th at 7 PM. "An evening of off-beat music and sketches by Broadway pros and burgeoning local artists, 'Briefs' is a revealing look at life's unmentionables through song, dance and short plays." The show is $20.
"In Love and War: Songs from Mother Courage" will be performed on Wednesday, December 13th at 10 PM. "A tour-de-force multimedia cabaret performance, 'In Love and War' sets the songs from Bertolt Brecht's play Mother Courage and Her Children to a new jazz score by acclaimed Irish duo McCarthy and O'Conaill. Vocalists/ instrumentalists Satya Bhabha, Julie Lake and Eric Meridiano perform Brecht's songs with panoply of instruments, from cellos to computer cables. Catch the New York City premiere of this genre-defying event." Tickets are $10.A "Hanukkah Party," presented on Thursday, December 21st from 7:30 PM to 10 PM, will feature a "Dreidel Slam." "Get your gelt on with Makor's Hanukkah bash featuring live klezmer, theater performances, and ninja puppetry. Latkes, jelly doughnuts and wine included. Puppeteer Dov Weinstein performs a 'Tiny Ninja' version of the Hanukkah story. Theater troupe Bima-NY stages short plays, including 'One Candle' by Brenda Shoshana, 'Dreidel' by Evan Guilford-Blake and a play by Eric Winik. The Alex Kontorovich Trio's foot-stomping klezmer plays throughout the night." Tickets are $25.
