Calendar of Events Announced for 2006 Tony Awards

As the 2005-2006 Tony Awards season draws near, the Broadway community eagerly awaits the announcement of this year's Tony nominees. The American Theatre Wing's 60th Annual Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday, June 11th from 8:00 – 11:00 PM (ET/PT time delay). The Tony Awards are presented by the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing.

A complete calendar of Tony Awards events and dates has been announced.

On Monday, April 17th, a private cocktail reception to unveil the "60 Years of Tony Award Excellence" exhibit at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts will feature the original window cards from each of the Tony Award-winning plays and musicals. The exhibit will be on display for the public until June 12th.

Wednesday, May 10th is the official cut-off date for Tony eligibility.

Tuesday, May 16th will mark the 2006 Tony Awards nominations announcement live from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. A complete list of the 2006 nominees will be available at www.TonyAwards.com on that date.

On Wednesday, May 17th, the annual Meet the Nominees Press Reception will be held at The View restaurant at the top of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square.

On Tuesday, May 23rd, Tony Career Day will give New York City public high school students from all five boroughs the opportunity to explore the many careers opportunities in theatre. Participants will attend seminars at various Broadway theatres, led by theatre professionals that will address careers in management, production, performance, design and technical theatre.

The exclusive Tony Nominees Luncheon, held at the Rainbow Room on Thursday, May 25th, will be a chance for the nominees to celebrate each other's achievements and receive their nomination certificates.

On Saturday, June 10th, for the first time, The Tony Awards will host the Lifetime Achievement Ceremony for the winner of this year's distinguished honor. The private reception will be held at The Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The recipient of The Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement will be named at the Nominations Announcement on May 16th.

The 60th Annual Tony Awards will take place at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 11th. Red carpet arrivals will begin at 6:00 PM. The three-hour ceremony will be broadcast live (ET/PT time delay) on the CBS Television Network from 8:00 – 11:00 PM. The Tony Gala will follow at the Summer Garden at Rockefeller Plaza.

Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss/White Cherry Entertainment are Executive Producers of the 2006 Tony Awards. Weiss will also serve as Director of the 2006 Tony Awards.
