Cast members fromthe Broadway production of Wicked will perform in a special cabaret show to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on November 14th at 7 PM at the Hideaway Room at Helen's (169 Eighth Avenue, between 18th and 19th Streets).
The doors for the evening, which is a part of the new Cabaret Cares series, will open at 6 PM and showtime is at 7 PM; all proceeds benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The concert will beproduced by Raise the Bar Productions (Shane Mathews & Colm Reilly)
and Joseph John Productions (Joseph Macchia) in conjunction with
Helen's.
There will also be a Gala Event on November 28, which will be the final
performance in the series for 2005. Select performers from previous
shows in the year will be in the gala, including some major stars (please check www.helensnyc.com
for the updated listing of scheduled stars). The gala event's $100 cover
charge includes a cocktail and pre-fixe menu, with all proceeds to benefit
BC/EFA. There will be a live auction during the show for various
Broadway items including autographed show posters. Wicked is
the untold story of the witches of Oz. "Long before Dorothy drops in,
two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green
skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful,
ambitious and very popular. Wicked
tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely
friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good
Witch."
Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, the show boasts music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin)and a book by Winnie Holzman ("My So-Called Life"). The show is directed by Tony award winner Joe Mantello (Assassins, Take Me Out) with musical staging by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who's Tommy). Wickedfeatures sets by Tony Award-winner Eugene Lee, costumes by Tony Award-winner Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony Meola.
