CYNTHIA-REEVES is pleased to announce our participation in the upcoming Art Miami New York Fair, May 14 - 17, at Pier 94 in New York City. Located along the Hudson River on 12th Avenue and 55th Street, CYNTHIA-REEVES will present artwork that predominantly demonstrates a sense of restraint. Minimalist in composition, gestural in execution, and elegant in line, the curated works share a fluidity and grace - fromGeorge Sherwood's understated kinetic work, Avian Geometry, 2015, to the large tonal ink and acrylic brush paintings of Shen Chen.

A notable exception to this sense of restraint is the high colored mixed media and wall-based sculpture, BIOGRAPHY, by CYNTHIA-REEVES artist, Steven Siegel, who officially joined the gallery roster this year. Siegel's monumental work, BIOGRAPHY, has been selected as one of the fair's impressive public art installations. The sculpture is an ambitious mural of recycled materials which, in its entirety, stretches over 156 ft. in length. The gallery will show a 48-ft. excerpt of Siegel's project. Originally conceived in 2008, BIOGRAPHY was brought to Cynthia's attention following the artist's inclusion in The Conference of the Birds, the gallery's off-site curated project exhibited in 2012 at MANA Contemporary in Jersey City.

"Like contemporary environmental geologists who increasingly study the restive relationship between the earth's systems and human induced changes, Steven Siegel offers opportunities for speculation about patterns of decay evident in the "deep time" of geological history, and the aggressive temporality of contemporary culture." - Patricia C. Phillips, Sculpture Magazine, 2003

Siegel is an American artist who creates large, site-specific public sculptures which have been installed throughout the United States and Europe. Each piece is conceived and built onsite using indigenous materials so that is becomes integral to the surrounding landscape. "We are part of this amazing system, this universe that is so far beyond our comprehension. I feel like I'm plugged into something that's so big, I never run out of inspiration."

A preview of our artist line-up for Art Miami New York is now available online, and features select work by museum exhibiting artists; Sarah Amos, Shen Chen, Allison Gildersleeve, Daniel Kohn, Soo Sunny Park,George Sherwood, and Steven Siegel.
