COME JOIN THE BAND! Announces Free NYC Family Show on 1/25

Families are invited to experience the magic created at Come Join the BAND! in a free, and free-wheeling, high-energy, surprise-filled show on Sunday, January 25 at 1:00 p.m. at DROM, 85 Avenue A, NYC.

Imagine being a kid who loves music and landing in a real band surrounded by professional musicians from bands like Blue Man Group and The Dirty Sock Funtime Band. Imagine performing with those musicians at iconic NYC venues. Now imagine learning to play your instrument under the inspiring mentorship of those celebrated pros at one of the most venerable rehearsal studios in New York City, where almost all the pro musicians rehearse. At Come Join the BAND!, a high octane after school program for kids ages 4 - 18, that's exactly what happens.

The one-of-a-kind concert on January 25 will showcase the talents of musicians ranging in age from 4 to 45, playing songs written by the performers themselves. Joining the youthful Come Join the BAND! musicians will be players from Blue Man Group, The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, and more.

Bands at the January show -- The Um-Mazing Emeralds, U.S.A. (Unusual Squad of Awesomeness), Futurist Robots, The Dragons, Absolute Zero, and Infinity Soil -- will perform numbers like "Um Candy World," "Bootylation," "Far Away From Home," "Sandwiches and Chips," and "Jurassic Armageddon." Audience members will be encouraged to dance, sing along, and even help write an original song!

Come Join the BAND! is planning a super duper raffle for this show, featuring such prizes as a free month of Come Join the BAND! tuition; an original song written and recorded for the winner on a topic of the winner's choice; and a free private guitar, bass, piano, or drum lesson with a Come Join the BAND! staff member.

The brainchild of Stephen Jacobs, co-founder of the award winning, arts-based, peace education program Kids Creative and the critically praised, ridiculously entertaining The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, Come Join the BAND! emphasizes teamwork, musicianship, and fun. The program gives special emphasis to developing social and emotional intelligence in a peace-based environment, encouraging kids to be confident and kind as they build effective working relationships with one another.
