COCA presents an interactive exhibition by St. Louis-based muralists Hap Phillips and Nita Turnage in the Millstone Gallery, June 21 through August 18, 2013. Phillips and Turnage will create a larger-than-life, interactive art installation that delves into the differences and similarities of each individual's perception of the world around us and gives young COCA students and campers a colorful introduction to the art gallery as a playground for the imagination.
Layers of imagery (pattern, shape, color and scale) and the innovative use of structural elements (windows, walls and floor) will transform the gallery an ever-shifting environment and encourage young minds to engage with the artwork and think about how they perceive the world around them. The installation will feature the continuous development of art throughout the summer, with opportunities for COCA students and campers to add to the exhibition and create alongside the artists.
Hap Phillips and Nita Turnage are St. Louis-based multi-media artists who have been working together creatively for thirteen years. They see the collaborative process as a playful opportunity to express their individual talents and create art that is more expansive than either artist could accomplish alone.
Phillips and Turnage are co-founders and co-owners of Muse Creative Painting and Design. Together, they received the 2009 Kick Ass Award from 52nd City for their creative contributions to St. Louis and the 2010 Gateway Arts Support Award from Gateway Burners.
