This month, Broadway's record-breaking, six-time Tony Award-winning musical smash CHICAGO is pleased to welcome back two of its most celebrated veterans.
First, on Thursday, February 24,
Raymond Bokhour returns as Roxie's all-but-invisible husband, Amos Hart. 2011 marks Bokhour's ten-year anniversary as Amos -- a role with which he made his Broadway debut in 2001 and also earned a Helen Hayes Award nomination. (
Robert Creighton concludes his run as Amos Hart on Tuesday, Feburary 22.)
Then, on Monday, February 28,
Roz Ryan returns as Cook County's tough-as-nails prison warden, Matron "Mama" Morton. Ms. Ryan, best known for her role as Amelia Hetebrink in the NBC series "Amen," has been a longtime CHICAGO fixture, having played "Mama" on Broadway and on numerous national and international tours since the late '90s. She can currently be seen on the big screen in the feature film Waiting for Forever. (
LaVon Fisher-Wilson concludes her run as Matron "Mama" Morton on Sunday, February 27.)
Now playing at Broadway's Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St.), CHICAGO also stars
Bianca Marroquin as Roxie Hart,
Leigh Zimmerman as Velma Kelly and
Brent Barrett as Billy Flynn. As previously announced, world-renowned supermodel
Christie Brinkley is set to make her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart beginning Monday, April 4.
MORE ABOUT "CHICAGO"
Now in its 15th glorious year of girls, glitz and glamour on the Great White Way, the record-breaking smash hit musical CHICAGO is now the sixth longest-running production in Broadway history ... and shows no sign of ever slowing down!
CHICAGO features a book by
Fred Ebb and
Bob Fosse, music by
John Kander and lyrics by
Fred Ebb, and is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids.
Directed by
Walter Bobbie and choreographed by
Ann Reinking, and produced by Barry and
Fran Weissler, CHICAGO has become a worldwide phenomenon with productions in 24 countries and 11 languages since 1996. The record-breaking London production of CHICAGO continues to hold the record as the longest-running American musical in West End history.
