CastAndLoose Live! returns for its 8th full-length installment to present CastAndLoose Live! Boys Don't Cry When Transparent Danish Girls Join The Dallas Buyers Club, on Monday, August 27th, 2018 at 7:00pm at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street, NYC. Run time is one hour. Tickets are $20 and are available at https://www.publictheater.org/reserve/index.aspx?performanceNumber=37764
CastAndLoose Live! is based on the Tumblr created and maintained by actor/writer Lynne Marie Rosenberg (High Maintenance); castandloose.tumblr.com is "your daily dose of show business misogyny, racism and general absurdity," featuring a collection of the worst, real casting notices the internet has to offer. In CastAndLoose Live!, stars of stage and screen bring to life, verbatim, some of the ridiculous and offensive breakdowns featured on the blog:
"[ IZZY ] Female 20-30. Open sexuality, but should have long hair."
"[ SURPRISE ] This transgender female, has a real "surprise" for a few of the guys."
"[ TALULAH ] MALE (TRANSSEXUAL/CROSSDRESSER)... Talulah is a male to female transsexual who is as sassy as she is bitchy. If the light is right, she can be quite beautiful, but to the observant eye, she isn't fooling anyone."
This evening, CastAndLoose Live! investigates all the stereotypes and struggles facing the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) community in the industry. In addition to breathing life into these terrible job descriptions, the cast will perform the world premiere of response pieces written by members of the TGNC community.
CastAndLoose will donate proceeds from the show to support the TransLab Reading Series. TransLab is a fellowship program supporting emerging trans playwrights and directors, sponsored by The Public Theater and WP Theater.
Lynne Marie Rosenberg will perform with guest artists Maybe Burke (The Trans Literacy Project), Pooya Mohseni (Falling Water), Samy el-Noury (Transparent), Aneesh Sheth (A Kid Like Jake), Tonilyn Sideco (PBS Digital Studio's First Person), Brian Michael Smith (Queen Sugar), and special appearance by Kit Yan (Interstate). The evening is directed by Jenn Haltman (Cannibal Galaxy), co-produced with MJ Kaufman (Masculinity Max) and Kit Yan, and will feature response pieces written by Maybe Burke, Donnie Cianciotto, Mashuq Mushtaq Deen, Ada Karamanyan, Emmett Lundberg, Pooya Mohseni, Azure D. Osborne-Lee, Aneesh Sheth, Ianne Fields Stewart, Corbin Went, and Simone Wolff & Kit Yan.
