F#%king Up Everything is a rock musical comedy with heart. Set in today's Brooklyn indie music scene, it is an old-fashioned boy-meets-girl love story for the 21st Century. When these hipsters aren't true to who they are, they screw up everything. Especially love. And no one screws up more than children's puppeteer Christian Mohammed Schwartzelberg when he meets singer-songwriter Juliana, the girl of his dreams.
F#%king Up Everything first took the stage at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2009 where it was recognized with the NYMF Awards for Excellence for Book, Lyrics (Honorable Mention), Outstanding Performance and Best Ensemble (Honorable Mention). In 2011, the show was presented at Washington, D.C's Woolly Mammoth where it was called "An hour and a half of pure, unadulterated fun" - DC Theatre Scene (5 Stars!); "Rocks the house!" Washington Post; "So well-conceived, so perfectly executed" - Washington City Paper.
CAP21's 20th Anniversary Season also includes Unfinished Business, and If [or When]. Unfinished Business (currently playing through February 13 at the CAP21 Theatre) stars Karen Mason (Wonderland, Mamma Mia!). This new solo play is driven by the music of Brian Lasser, directed by Barry Kleinbort and musically directed by Christopher Denny. If [of When] is a co-production with Rescue Agreement that is a semi-immersive performance that utilizes new technology and stage illusion to create a story of memory. If [or When] will play at the CAP21 Theatre June 3 - 29, 2013.
The CAP21 Theatre Company's extensive programming for the development of new plays and musicals is designed to propel new work towards production. Programs include: The Writers Residency, The Artists Residency, The Roundtable Reading Series, The Monday Night Reading Series, and the Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway production of new plays and musicals. Last season, these programs further developed 28 new works, including the award-winning production of Southern Comfort, which earned CAP21 the GLAAD Award for Outstanding New York Theater. Additionally, numerous new works developed with The CAP21 Theatre Company have moved on to subsequent productions and workshops around the U.S. and three new musicals produced at CAP21 have been awarded the Jonathan Larson Grant Award.
