Helen George, well known as 'Trixie' from BBC's CALL THE MIDWIFE, will star onstage in AFTER MISS JULIE, Patrick Marber's adaptation of August Strindberg's classic. The Daily Mail writes that the production will open at the Theatre Royal, Bath, tonight, May 24 before stopping in Guildford, Cambridge, Brighton, Richmond and Milton Keynes. After that, the producers hope to take the play to the West End.

Marber's production is set at a country estate in 1945 just before the Labour Party win over Winston Churchill. Strindberg's original took place in 19th-century Sweden. Conflicts arise when Miss Julie meets her father's chauffeur John and they start a torrid affair.

George described her character to the Mail as, "complicated, fragile, arrogant -- and vile -- but also sensitive, with Socialist values even though she's from this huge estate." This isn't the first time George has tackled the role; she appeared in a student production of MISS JULIE years ago.

The actress also took part in a reading of AFTER MISS JULIE for Marber, Theatre Royal's Danny Mar, and director Anthony Banks.

George will soon be seen in the Christmas episode of CALL THE MIDWIFE, which debuts its fifth series in January. A sixth series is planned for next year. She recently appeared in STRICTLY COME DANCING and finished in sixth place. Helen has previously starred in the West End in THE WOMAN IN WHITE.
