Charles
Busch and Julie Halston will kick off The Winter Season at
Birdland (315 West 44 Street) on Monday, November 28th at 7pm. The new Winter Season series, presented by Jim Caruso and
TheaterMania.com, features top Broadway performers and composers
at the legendary club.
"Charles Busch and his longtime stage buddy Julie Halston will perform
songs, sketches and reminisce about their twenty-year friendship and
the creation of the long running cult play Vampire Lesbians of Sodom," state press notes. Busch (Tony-nominated author of The Tale of the Allergist's Wife and the star of the film Die, Mommie, Die) and Julie Halston (Hairspray, Gypsy, TwentiethCentury, Bitsy Von Muffling on "Sex and the City") starred together in the original off-Broadway productions of Busch's plays Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset and You Should Be So Lucky. Last March, the duo starred in a sold-out benefit for the Actors Fund at the Music Box Theatre called Charles Busch and Julie Halston on Broadway. In Together Again at Birdland, they will be accompanied by musical director and cabaret star Billy Stritch.
"Birdland has been a world-class music room on the Manhattan nightclub
scene since 1949. Jazz superstars Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dinah
Washington, and more recently Ann Hampton Callaway, Diana Krall, John
Pizzarelli and Tito Puente have all performed on the Birdland stage.
The room offers top-flight music in a world class setting, good sight
lines and acoustics, and a menu featuring award-winning Southern
cuisine, available until 1am. Most recently, it's become the home of
Cast Party, the weekly Monday late night showbiz gathering featuring
impromptu performances by the Broadway, jazz and nightclub crème de la
crème."
