Any Minute Now, a New York based company dedicated to presenting the work of emerging musical theatre artists, will present its second "Any Minute Rocks Now," and evening of musical theatre singer-songwriters with their pop and rock bands at The Knitting Factory (74 Leonard Street). The show will take place tonight, Monday, July 24, starting at 7 p.m.
The line-up for "Any Minute Rocks Now" includes Ryan Mercy, Maddy Wyatt, Temar Underwood,
Kevin Kraft,
John Bucchino,
Julie Foldesi, The Somebodies, The Third Avenue Impostors and a performance of a number from the upcoming musical Smoking Bloomberg.
At 7:00, Ryan Mercy, will perform. Mercy is co-composer of the new musical Just Like Magic with Christopher Barnes. Maddy Wyatt will follow at 7:30. She has been seen regionally in productions of
The Who's Tommy and
Titanic. Temar Underwood, joined by Dan Deming and Andrea Marie Smith, will perform at 8. Underwood is a rock and soul singer/songwriter seen in various productions with Vampire Cowboy's Theater Company, including the NY Innovative Theatre Awards-nominated play
Living Dead in Denmark At 8:30,
Kevin Kraft seen on Broadway in
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Off-Broadway in
Johnny Guitar and
Plane Crazy for NYMF, will perform.
At 9,
John Bucchino will follow. Bucchino is the recipient of The Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award (1997), The Songwriters' Fellowship Award (1998), The ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award (1998), The Jonathan Larson Award (2001), The Kleban Award (2001), the first annual
Fred Ebb Award (2005), and more. He has written songs for the musicals The Artist at 40, Urban Myths and Lavender Girl, a piece included in an evening of short musicals called
3HREE, compiled by
Harold Prince, which had productions in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. He has also written the songs for the Dreamworks animated film
Joseph, King of Dreams (from which "Better Than I" won the 2000 Video Premiere Award for best song), and has released three "CDs: Grateful, The Songs of
John Bucchino," "Solitudelessons" and "On Richard Rodgers' Piano." He recently put together a musical revue of his songs called
It's Only Life with director
Daisy Prince, and is currently at work with
Harvey Fierstein on a new musical called
A Catered Affair.
At 9:30,
Julie Foldesi, seen on Broadway in
Little Women and
The Full Monty, will take the stage. The Somebodies will follow at 10. They are a Brooklyn rock band, with Pete Derba on vocals and guitar, Will Harden on guitar, Phil McDonald on vocals and drums, and Luke Mitchell on vocals and bass. At 10:30, the Third Avenue Impostors--featuring members of the Friedman Brothers Band--will perform.
The evening will also feature a performance of the number "Nick Nolte" from the upcoming new musical
Smoking Bloomberg, by David Cornue, Sam Holtzapple, Warren Loy and Chris Todd. The irreverent musical about a dry cleaner seeking revenge on Mayor Bloomberg after the NYC smoking ban ruins her business recently won AMN's Next Big Musical Competition and will be presented as part of the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival (co-produced by Any Minute Now and NYMF).

jon + jen, both at Lincoln Center's Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, in addition to its regular Composer Series at The Triad and the first "Any Minute Rocks Now" at The Knitting Factory.
