The producers of the new musical Peter & I have announced that the show will receive a production at the Chernuchin Theater at the American Theater of Actors as part of The Araca Project, a new program created by The Araca Group to support emerging theatre artists. The production will run October 6 - October 16, 2011.
Peter & I features music by Matt Vinson and book and lyrics by Matte O'Brien, whose most recent work includes the Whoopi Goldberg-produced and Jeff-nominated White Noise at the Royal George in Chicago and the Le Petite Theatre in New Orleans. O'Brien will also direct the production, which will feature musical direction by Amanda Morton (16 Days).
Peter & I stars Aynsley Bubbico (TV's GREEK, How I Met Your Mother, Jersey Shoresical), Chris Dwan, Ben Hart (Avenue Q), Geoffrey Kidwell, Emily Padgett (Rock of Ages, Grease), and Jared Zirilli (Wicked).
Based on true events, Peter & I is a musical brimming with questions of faith, loss, salvation, love and immortality. It explores the mysteries surrounding the life and death of Michael Llewelyn Davies; one of the boys who inspired J.M. Barrie to create the character of Peter Pan in his classic tale, Peter and Wendy. Michael's journey is woven together with snapshots from his life, including time with his mother and J.M. Barrie, as well as his lover at Oxford University, Rupert Buxton and the fictional characters of Peter and Wendy which he helped to inspire.
Peter & I recently had a reading take place in August 2011 that starred Julia Murney, Jack Noseworthy, Lucas Steele and Constantine Rousouli. It also previously had a reading at Syracuse University New Work's program.
Peter & I is being produced by Alex Alcheh, Emily Batsford, Lee Ann Gullie, Rebecca Leifman, Justin Nichols, Patrick Murney and Rope Swing Entertainment.
